[Grid Reliability] Re: WS-CAF Implementation

Daniela,

Thanks for getting in touch,

I'm afraid Arjuna are no longer participating in the Web service transaction related specifications. We sold all our transactioning middleware to JBoss in December 2005.

JBoss offer Web service transactions as part of their JBossTS product (a re-branding of ArjunaTS). Although, the implementation supports WS-TX rather than WS-CAF; which is now JBoss' focus in the Web service transactions field. It is not clear on what future WS-CAF has; however, it is clear that WS-TX has a lot of industry backing.

JBoss make JBossTS freely available under a GNU open source license. So my advice would be to refer you to the JBossTS forum where there is an active community present.

I hope this helps,

Paul Robinson.

[Grid Reliability] WS-CAF Implementation

Hi all,
I do researches in Web service compositions area and recently I heard about WS-CAF and thus I propose the study of this specification to a student. Now, we are having our first contact with WS-CAF, we download from forge.objectweb the implementation.
I have some questions and probably this list is the best place. If not, please point me to the correct place.

- WS-CAF implementation deals with the three specification or only WS-TXM (LRA)
- What is the main difference between WS-TXM and WS-Transactions?
- Can we compare WS-CAF with WS-BPEL? Have they similiar objectives?

Thank you in advance,

I would appreciate any comments!

"Steve Caughey, Arjuna's CEO, explains why reliability issues should be a major concern to enterprises moving towards a more agile IT infrastructure. This 20 minute presentation highlights the major drivers that will accelerate the move towards transactional applications running on grids of commodity boxes and identifies the reliability issues that will arise as this occurs. The presentation aims to foster debate, raising concerns and open questions to the community."
